551 Ponce

Acquisition: April 2018

STATUS: december 2018 exit

551 Ponce was built in 1929 as the Garner-Wallace Hotel, a 50 key hotel with all guest rooms having private bathrooms, modern for its time.

Located on iconic Ponce De Leon Ave in Atlanta, the hotel has had a colorful history, housing some of Atlanta’s most pioneering nightlife concepts: Mrs. P’s (opened in 1956 as one of Atlanta’s first LGBTQ bars) and MJQ (one of Atlanta’s longest running nightclubs, opened in 1994 by George Chang in the basement of the hotel, and since relocated to a difference location on Ponce).

551 Ponce had most recently been operated as SRO housing and fallen into disrepair. The Haverhill team handled the initial development and entitlement to redevelop the site as a 112 key boutique hotel. Once entitled, the property was sold to local Atlanta developers, and Haverhill has continued to consult on the project.
